You want something that draws them in when they read it so they click-through to read more.

Once you have them on your article, you need to make sure that the introduction draws them in.

People’s attention span, especially on the web is very short. I know mine is.

Last year the world lost a great inventor, entrepreneur and public speaker.

For all of Steve Job’s gifts to the world through the technology he bought to life, we can also learn a lot through the way he presented on behalf of Apple and Pixar, giving us small business owners a nice structure for our presentations.

I’ve distilled this down to 3 key areas that I think we can use in our businesses to give better presentations.

The three techniques I’m going to show you are summed up as: navigation through the speech, enthusiasm in delivery and selling the benefits.

As I scour the web for small businesses websites I’ve noticed a common theme that troubles me. Many small business owners, unknowingly, setup blogs and profiles on third-party websites not knowing that the best thing you can do is keep control of your content by hosting it on your own website.

I got a question from Michael of Vialii Garden Design over on my Google+ page.

“Hi Chris, I’ve been mulling this over for a while now and have received conflicting advice. I most recently heard (or read) that by having your blog external to your website gave the advantage of linking back to your website. This is obviously at odds with the above so now I’m really confused. We’re hoping to have our websites upgraded soon to a content management system and were originally intending on having the blog incorporated but the conflicting benefits have muddied the waters. Which direction has the biggest advantage?”

I thought my response would benefit more people so here it is. Also note how I posted my detailed response on my website rather than the social media site (a site I don’t control) and then linked back here to get people to visit my site. That’s what I’m all about here at Really Simple Web – your website is the hub of your online activity NOT your social media profiles.

Email

I am not talking about spam, where people obtain email addresses illegally or unethically. I am talking about permission marketing using email.

What Is Permission Marketing?

As far as I am concerned, when it comes to permission marketing with email, this means that the person you are going to send the email too has given you permission to send them it.

If you were hungry and walking down a street trying to find something to eat, what would make you choose one restaurant over another?

Let’s say that you were in the mood for Italian, and there are two Italian restaurants next to each other.

One has a menu, in a clear and easy to read typeface displayed outside. The sign is modern and professional alerting you to the name of the restaurant and the windows are clean.

The other has no menu on display, and you aren’t sure if it is open. There is grease marks on the window and two of the letters on the name are missing.

Which would you choose?

They say that you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but people always do.

Now take a look at your website.
